Such a Blessing to Me

I am not much of a devotional reader. But I will give you an exception to that. I have found two incredible devotional books that have blessed me beyond what I could even hope or imagine.

They are Jesus Calling by Sarah Young and His Princess Warrior, Love Letters for Strength from Your Lord by Sheri Rose Shepherd. If you are looking for a good simple but deep devotional book to get your day started right these are great!

It is official....The Ticks are out again.

Well tonight we found the first tick of the season in our home. I only praise God that I am not ruled by fear in this, however, I know firsthand what an infected one can do to you. It wrecked my health. I cannot even begin to tell you the vast devastation that can occur because of something the size of an eraser head. I am still twelve years out of dealing with the effects. Ticks can carry several strands of nasty bacteria that are really hard to treat if left unattended too long.

I am not saying this to incite fear in anyone. But I am bringing it up because there are precautions we can take to stay safe. Warning signs to look out for if you are bitten. Things can take place to keep us from getting sick like me.

Spray with bug spray before going out.
Always check yourself after being outdoors.
If you get one attached pull it straight out with tweezers.
NEVER put a match to it or alcohol on the tick attached, it will release its nastiness into you.
Watch for symptoms of a bulls eye rash on your skin. (This does not happen on all infected people)
Watch for symptoms of flu-like illness.

If you get treated right away it can prevent it from wrecking your health. So please just take precautions. It is too late for me, but you can stay safe by doing these things.

A copy of this book was provided to me free of charge for the purpose of review.

LOVED this book. I just have to say it. I was concerned since the last couple of reviews have been not so good. Thanks Tracey for bringing back the joy of books!

Green Mama, The Guilt-Free Guide to Helping You and Your Kids Save the Planet is just what it says it is. I at no time felt guilty about my lack of being green. However, in the sweet way the author writes I found many suggestions that I can easily implement. Some that I already have.

I also love how she writes beautifully from a Christian perspective on this topic. God gave us this earth to live on and take care of being good stewards of it. How well are we doing? There are so many things we could do to change but it all starts with one step at a time.

I will be using it again and again to check the many resources this book included. SO many good resources to learn about fair trade items, truly organic items, and gifts that help others. Things I have been wanting to look into but not really sure how. If you are wanting to do better in being green then this book is a great read. LOVED it.

Book Review - Free Book by Brian Tome

I received a copy of this book free from the publisher for the purpose of review.

I am a firm believe in complete freedom in Christ. Scripture states that where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. If you are a believer in Christ Jesus then the Holy Spirit indwells within you. If that is the case we are to live in freedom in Christ. The Holy Spirit will lead and guide each one of us in this area of our lives. What a sweet relief to know that.

Since I am passionate about freedom in Christ I was so excited to review this book. Unfortunately it was not what I thought it would be. I really do not like to write a negative review. I really only want to use words to build others up. This is really hard. I had the hardest time getting through this book though and I have to be honest. I just could not relate completely with the author. I agreed with lots of what he said but there was just something that didn't sit well. I know that sounds vague. Like I stated before in a review I did earlier, some books are for certain seasons of life. This was probably just not the season for me.

One other thing I would change about this book is the cover design. I really did not like the look of it. I almost didn't chose it because of the cover. I should have trusted my instinct in that. Maybe you will find this book to be helpful. I did find some good things in it that God did use. I love how He always does that. Anyway, I would love to know what you thought about the book if you get a chance to read it.

Book Review - Love Mercy by Lisa Samson and Ty Samson

This book was provided to me free by the publisher.

Love Mercy is an interesting true account of the life of two women. Particularly their connection to a village in Africa. I liked that mother and daughter could experience this stuff together. That must be a great thing. Stories are also very interesting of different cultures and things that most of us Americans often take for granted.

Though there were good things about the book, I really could not get into it myself. I really tried to but I just could not. Sometimes different books are better for different seasons of our lives. Possibly this is a reason. There were some theological differences that I had with the author as well. That made sifting through a little difficult.

Book Review - This Litte Prayer of Mine by Anthony Destefano

I received a copy of this book free from the publisher for the purpose of review.

This was the sweetest little book. It is a simple child's prayer. I had both of my children read it with me and got their input. My six year old really just liked it. She remembered that she can talk to God anytime and about anything. She wanted to read it again.

My eight year old read the book and really liked it too. The interesting thing about her reaction was that in two places it actually convicted her of behaviors she had lately and how she should be taking those things to God.

I loved the pictures in the book and how much of an easy read it was. It was good for my family and I know that means it will be enjoyed by others as well. Definitely a keeper.
